  • Milwaukee County Register of Deeds, John La Fave
  • It is easy for me to speak well of Superior Support Resources. They came to the rescue when my department was having major problems with slowdowns and interruptions to our computer system. Our specialized land records software system is the backbone of our document recording process. Both our software vendor and the county information management department had difficulty finding the source of our problems. I'm not a technical person and became increasing frustrated with some unproductive finger pointing that began to take place.  All I was interested in was getting our problems fixed so we could do our job serving the public!

Superior Support Resources (SSR) had been doing some work in other county departments. When I learned of them I asked them to perform a full-scale study of our department in relation to the county network system. They examined our hardware, software system and conductivity issues from top to bottom. SSR’s friendly communication style gained the trust of county personnel and our software vendor. They produced a detailed plan for a new System Architecture Design for the Register of Deeds. I was able to obtain funding for the purchase of new storage systems and other equipment and the county and software vendor cooperated in its implementation. The result is a system that now runs flawlessly.

I have also used SSR for other projects involving the creation of specialized databases and conversion of microfilm images to digital format in conjunction with a partnering firm.

    About Register of Deeds
John La Fave has been the elected the Register of Deeds of Milwaukee County since 2003. State statutes outline requirements for how real estate documents shall be recorded.  His office uses a land records software system for recording 700 to 1000 documents daily.  The Register of Deeds department must scan, image and index data from 3000 to 4500 pages/images daily that become public record available for viewing within the office and also on the Internet. In 2003 his office was one of the first 25 counties in the country to provide the option of recording documents in electronic format, rather than submitting them on paper. Any interruption or slowdown to the workflow in the Register of Deeds is very inconvenient to title companies, financial institutions, law firms and the general public. Everything that is recorded in the Register of Deeds must be available for public view virtually forever.
